The SEC Technology Tours

The senior experts go on excursions together. At these events – preferably a mixture of culture and chemistry – discovering new horizons and socialising with fellow seniors are equally important. In addition to GDCh’s senior members, these excursions are usually also attended by the VAA’s senior members from the Hanau-Wolfgang plant group.

This first excursion on 23 May 2007 was organised by Holger Bengs; all subsequent tours were organised by Wolfgang Gerhartz, partly with strong support from Eva Wille, Klaus-Peter Jäckel and Hans-Uwe von Grabowski.

  • A visit to Chempark Leverkusen is the destination of the 16th SEC technology tour (9–11 Sep 26)
  • A visit to the KIT Campus North in Karlsruhe (formerly the Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Centre) was the destination of the 15th SEC technology tour.
  • On 23 Sep 24, we met for a visit to ThyssenKrupp in Duisburg.
  • The 13th SEC technology tour took us to Weinheim an der Bergstraße on 22 Feb 2024 to Freudenberg SE.
  • During the 12th SEC technology tour (27–29 Sep 2022), we had the opportunity to visit the food testing institute in Oldenburg.
  • The 11th SEC technology tour went to Duderstadt in the Eichsfeld region (city tour) and Deuna (visit to B+T’s plastics processing facility and Dyckerhoff’s cement works) on 12 and 13 Sep 2021.
  • The 10th SEC technology tour took us to the flat-steel works in Salzgitter and the old town of Brunswick (30 Sep–1 Oct 19).
  • The programme of the 9th SEC technology tour on 7 Sep 2018 included the August Köhler SE paper mill in Oberkirch.
  • The 8th SEC technology tour went to Deutsche Amphibolinwerke DAW SE in Ober-Ramstadt on 4 Oct 2017.
  • The Phantastische Bibliothek and Leica Camera AG’s award-winning building in Wetzlar were the destinations of the 7th SEC technology tour. on 24 Nov 2015.
  • The 6th SEC technology tour also took us to Darmstadt, to the Hessian State Museum and the GSI Society for Heavy Ion Research in Wixhausen.
  • During the 5th SEC technology tour to Darmstadt on 14 Nov 2013, the Hundertwasser House was visited, followed by Merck (with a focus on OLEDs).
  • On 26 Aug 2011, the 4th SEC technology tour set off for Erbach in the Odenwald (Einhard’s Basilica in Steinbach and a city tour), and finally to Koziol.
  • The 3rd SEC technology tour went to Darmstadt on 30 Aug 2010 to visit ESOC (Europe’s gateway to outer space) and the Art Nouveau villas on Mathildenhöhe.
  • On 16 Jun 2009, the 2nd SEC technology tour went to Zwingenberg an der Bergstraße to visit BRAIN AG.
  • A visit to the Höchst Industrial Park and Sanofi-Aventis’s laboratories on 23 May 2007, the 1st SEC technology tour, marked the beginning.
