From Steel to Technology Group

Our 14th SEC technology tour took us to the ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Duisburg on 23 September 2024. Almut and Peter Staniek prepared the tour; many thanks to them for this! Please refer to the invitation for details, which was sent to all SEC members and the surrounding JCF regional sections during June 2024. As with the Freudenberg tour to Weinheim, our invitation was gratefully accepted. Thus, almost 40 SEC and JCF members learned about current steel production and decarbonisation using hydrogen as a reducing agent (green steel).

As Duisburg is not exactly in the centre of Germany, most participants arrived the day before and stayed overnight in Duisburg. Beforehand, they met at KöPi, the König Pilsener brewery's "König-Pilsener-Wirtshaus," located at Duisburg's inner harbour.

After the tour at ThyssenKrupp, almost two-thirds of the participants took the tram to Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.
