Art Nouveau and ion source

The 2014 Technology Tour of the Senior Expert Chemists of the GDCh once again took us to Darmstadt and the surrounding area. This tour was also organised jointly with the retired VAA members of Industriepark Wolfgang. This time, the programme included the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt (HLMD), which had just reopened, and the GSI Society for Heavy Ion Research to the north of Darmstadt.

HLMD. The Hessian State Museum was extensively renovated between 2007 and 2014, allowing Alfred Messel’s architecture to shine in all its fresh splendour. The presentation of the collections has been redesigned both structurally and in terms of content. The HLMD is offering us two guided tours: (1) a general overview of the building’s redesign and the collections, and (2) a tour focusing on Art Nouveau (maximum 25 people each).

GSI. The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt operates a large, one-of-a-kind ion accelerator facility. Researchers from all over the world use the facility for experiments to gain new insights into the structure of matter and the development of the universe. In addition, they are developing novel applications in medicine and technology. Highlights include the various research facilities, radiation therapy and the new FAIR construction site.
