About the GDCh

Chemistry is everywhere – in every medicine that saves lives, in every material that supports our world, in every solution that safeguards our future. And yet, in the public perception, it is underestimated like hardly any other science. We want to change that. For over 150 years, the GDCh has stood for a chemistry that is heard – as the voice of around 28,000 members from academia, industry and the liberal professions, as a bridge between research and society, and as a driving force for a sustainable, liveable world.

Our Goals and Values

Chemists of all nationalities, as well as members of other professions with an interest in chemistry, are welcome to join us. We are aware of our responsibility as scientists and therefore commit ourselves to our code of conduct, which forms part of our statutes.

Science & Research

We promote scholarly work, research and teaching while upholding the highest standards of quality and integrity, as well as the exchange and dissemination of academic knowledge.

Networks & Education

We support the creation of networks that foster transdisciplinary and international collaboration, as well as the continuous development of education and training in schools, higher education and professional environments.

Dialogue with the public

We seek intensive and constructive dialogue with the public to strengthen understanding of chemistry and chemical relationships.

Expertise & Responsibility

We actively and sustainably contribute our expertise to science, politics and society through open communication and trusting collaboration with our partners.

International community

We act independently, continuously and with lasting impact, embedded in the international community of natural scientists, for the benefit of society while taking the expectations of future generations into account.
