Even before starting your degree or training, you can gain initial insights into chemistry as a science and career. The GDCh offers you contact with local groups and the JCF network, as well as support with degree and career guidance.
During your studies and doctoral research, you benefit from reduced-rate membership and access to the JCF network with regional forums throughout Germany. Travel grants enable you to attend congresses and Conferences, while the careers service provides early support as you prepare to enter the world of work.
During your preparatory service, the GDCh provides you with targeted support in transitioning into the teaching profession. The Division of Chemical Education (FGCU) is particularly relevant, enabling you to exchange ideas on subject-specific and didactic matters with colleagues. As a trainee teacher or teacher in preparatory service, you can join the GDCh as an associate member and thus benefit from the offers mentioned.
Whether you work in industry, at a university or in research: as a GDCh member, you stay in touch with colleagues from your field and strategically expand your professional network. Through the Divisions & working groups and the local sections, you exchange expertise and make valuable contacts for your professional development. The careers service supports you at every stage of your career, for example with applications or career guidance. With Nachrichten aus der Chemie and Conferences & events, you also stay up to date with the latest professional and career developments.
Are you between jobs or currently looking for employment? With the appropriate proof, GDCh supports you during this period with a reduced membership fee of €30 per year. This allows you to remain part of the GDCh network without financial barriers. Through the Career Service, you receive targeted support with your job search, for example through advice, application tips and access to job vacancies. In addition, Nachrichten aus der Chemie and Conferences & Events keep you in touch with current developments in your field and potential employers.
Even after your active career, you remain part of the chemistry community at a reduced annual fee. In particular, the SEC Division (Senior Expert Chemists) offers the opportunity to pass on your experience and exchange ideas with other retired members. Lifelong learning is at the heart of this: Through Nachrichten aus der Chemie, Conferences & events, and GDCh.academy, you remain involved in the GDCh’s professional and social exchange.
Through your membership, you support the GDCh in making chemistry visible as a science and profession in society, politics and the public sphere. You not only benefit from a strong network yourself, but also join forces with 28,000 members to support early-career scientists, science communication and the social standing of chemistry. You also have the opportunity to get actively involved – for example, in a local section, Division or Working Group, or in GDCh committees. This enables you to play an active role in shaping the future of your field.
