Pfalzkapelle Aachen (Zeichnung Dr. Albert Siebert, <br />ehem. Degussa)

The GDCh Science Forum took place from 16–18 September 2019 in Aachen. The Senior Expert Chemists organised an afternoon of lectures there on Tuesday, 17 September, whose motto referred to Aachen:

Enjoying Aachen with all the senses

We addressed four senses with the topics of the lectures:

  • Tasting: Dr Michael Krohn (BRAIN AG): Hot – or would you rather have flavour?
  • Smelling: Prof. Dr Heribert Offermanns (formerly Degussa AG): “Öcher” chemical elements from a personal perspective
  • Seeing: Prof. Dr Hans Karl Rouette (Färbereien Gebr. Rouette and Rzehak, Rotex): Woollen cloth and sulphur thermal water: the textile city and spa centre were once typical of Bad Aachen
  • Touching: Prof. Dr Marcel Liauw (RWTH Aachen University): When our hearing and sight fail us ─ Aachen with plenty of feeling

The WiFo took place at the eurogress in Aachen; see www.wifo2019-aachen.de. The event was reported on in Nachrichten aus der Chemie: Nachr. Chem. 2019, 67(12), 82.
