environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology

The GDCh Division of Environmental Chemistry & Ecotoxicology was founded in November 1990, has around 850 members and is concerned with the interactions between chemicals and the environment. This involves, on the one hand, describing and understanding the pathways by which substances enter the environment, their distribution and transformation in the compartments soil, water and air (environmental chemistry), and, on the other, characterising their effects on organisms and habitats (ecotoxicology). This is a highly interdisciplinary field, offering research and career opportunities for people with expertise in chemistry, biology, geosciences, law, engineering and other related disciplines.

Those interested in research, regulation and industry can contribute to the work of the Division and its working groups in various ways and benefit from existing expertise:

• Annual conferences: scientific exchange and networking
• Young Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology Forum (JUF): training for early-career researchers
• Career days: career options with potential employers
• Communications of the Division of Environmental Chemistry & Ecotoxicology: the membership magazine
• At European level, the Division supports the activities of the Division of Chemistry and the Environment of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS).
