Wöhler-PhD Award
The Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry awards the Wöhler PhD Award in Inorganic Chemistry annually to early-career researchers of any nationality in recognition of outstanding scientific achievements for an excellent doctoral thesis completed in Germany (in inorganic molecular chemistry). The award is worth 1,000 euros per person. Only applications made by the candidates themselves will be considered. A maximum of two awardees will be selected per call for proposals. The Wöhler PhD Award was first opened for applications in 2022.
The Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry of the GDCh is once again inviting applications for the Wöhler PhD Award for 2027.
The award is presented to early-career researchers of any nationality in recognition of outstanding scientific achievements in a doctoral thesis completed in Germany. The thesis, which must cover a scientific field represented by the Division (inorganic molecular chemistry), including the viva, must have been completed in 2025. Only self-nominations will be considered. These must include a statement explaining the exceptional quality of the doctoral research, highlighting its innovative nature and particular relevance to the future and development of the field. We expressly encourage qualified female doctoral researchers to apply.
The selection is made by a jury appointed by the Board of the Wöhler Association, comprising representatives from academia and industry.
The prize comprises a certificate and prize money of €1,000. The awardees will give a lecture on the results of their work at the GDCh Conference on Inorganic Chemistry, organised by the Divisions Solid State Chemistry & Materials Research and Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry, in 2028.
Applications must include the following documents:
• a covering letter from the applicant
• a copy of the doctoral certificate
• the completed application form
• up to three key publications related to the doctoral research, to which the applicant made a significant contribution

We particularly encourage qualified women doctoral researchers to apply.
