Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic chemistry is a fundamental discipline of chemistry, and its boundaries are becoming increasingly difficult to define as modern research grows more interdisciplinary. Alongside fundamental teaching and research, which decisively shape our understanding of chemistry itself, it plays a central role in the rapid development of the natural sciences and encompasses a wide range of highly topical and forward-looking research fields – from exciting molecular chemistry and the design of novel catalysts and materials for energy research to supramolecular and bioinorganic chemistry at the interface with the life sciences.

The general tasks of the Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry are to

• further develop understanding of inorganic chemistry and its perception in society,
• strengthen networking between the chemical disciplines through collaboration with other Divisions – in all its activities, it works together with the Liebig Association for Organic Chemistry and the Division of Solid-State Chemistry and Materials Research, particularly on curricular matters with the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry and, on specific issues, with the Working Group Fluorochemistry, the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and relevant Divisions of the GDCh,
• stimulate research directions and research projects in the field of inorganic chemistry,
• promote the subject of inorganic chemistry at universities and inter-university cooperation among teaching staff with responsibility for the subject,
• promote contacts and the exchange of experience among members and with colleagues from abroad,
• provide information about important publications concerning inorganic chemistry and other activities in this field,
• build a bridge between schools, universities and professional life.
