Who we are – what we do

Training – Career – vocational training

The Working Group Vocational Education (AGBB) of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) was founded in 2009. It represents the interests of people working in non-academic chemical professions, such as chemical-technical assistants, chemical laboratory technicians and chemical technicians.

The AGBB is committed to…

  • bringing together everyone who is undertaking or has completed training in the school-based or workplace sector in the field of chemistry and related areas,
  • strengthening non-academic professions in chemistry,
  • providing advice on vocational education,
  • creating a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences,
  • expanding the vocational training provision for non-academic occupational groups.

The AGBB…

  • works independently of, but in dialogue with, trade unions, employers’ associations and organisations in the chemical industry,
  • maintains contact on training and legal matters with the relevant ministries of the federal states, the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK), professional associations and other representative bodies,
  • regularly exchanges information with schools and training companies in order to assess the current situation of all intermediate-level chemical professions.

Membership of the AGBB offers many benefits. Members in training in particular benefit from a large network that makes it easier for them to enter their future professional life.

Benefits of AGBB membership

Scholarships

The AGBB awards grants to laboratory technicians, chemical technicians, CTA students and people at the start of their careers, e.g. to attend the analytica trade fair.

AGBB grants

GDCh Graduation Award (formerly Absolventenpreis)

Since 2007, the GDCh has presented awards to the best graduates of each year who have completed chemistry-related training.
