Published by the GDCh Society of Water Chemistry, in collaboration with the Water Engineering Standards Committee (NAW) at DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V.; jointly published by Wiley-VCH GmbH and DIN Media GmbH

Since its foundation in 1926, one of the aims of the Society of Water Chemistry has been to standardise methods for assessing water quality. The “Physical and Chemical Standard Methods” were first published by Verlag Chemie in 1935, and in 1953 were issued in a revised and expanded edition under the title “German Standard Methods for Water Analysis”.

Since 1960, the “German Standard Methods for the Examination of Water, Wastewater and Sludge” have been published as a loose-leaf collection, and since November 2026 the publishers have offered a digital edition of the DEV. The loose-leaf collection and DEV Online are updated and expanded at regular intervals.
