Objective
The GDCh Division of Medicinal Chemistry and the DPhG Division of Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry jointly award this prize each year in recognition of outstanding and independent scientific research in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, as demonstrated by publications in scientific journals. The subject areas covered by the Innovation Prize span the entire breadth of medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, particularly research into and development of new therapeutics. The following subject areas illustrate the range of possible contributions and are not an exhaustive list of work deserving of an award:

  • Innovative approaches in medicinal chemistry that have led to the discovery of new active compounds.
  • Innovative synthesis strategies and methodologies and their application to the production of biologically active molecules.
  • Advances in chemical biology that contribute to elucidating biological systems and target structures and have been applied to medicinal chemistry.

The committee welcomes submissions demonstrating innovation in any area of medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry – including those extending beyond the examples listed above, as well as contributions from industry.
