GDCh special fund GDCh structures

GDCh special fund for exceptional activities of the GDCh structures

The special fund for exceptional activities of GDCh structures was established on 5 December 2008 by a resolution of the GDCh Executive Board. The fund is financed from part of the annual royalty income that GDCh receives from the publisher Wiley-VCH (Weinheim) for its journal Angewandte Chemie and its co-ownership of the Chemistry Europe journals.

What can be funded?

GDCh structures can apply for funding from the special fund to finance their own activities that are not part of their standard activities and could generally not be realised using “in-house resources”. In the case of regularly recurring formats, funding from the special fund can only serve as start-up funding. Examples:

  • Initiatives to strengthen networking within the GDCh or with other chemical science societies
  • Activities to promote understanding of chemistry among the general public or specific target groups (outreach)
  • Innovative formats for early-career scientists, existing and new target groups
  • Opportunities to recruit new GDCh members

To access these funds, the chairs of the GDCh structures should submit an informal letter to the GDCh Office (Dr. Carina S. Kniep) briefly explaining the project, the target group, the funding requirement and the specific activities on which the money is to be spent. The Executive Director decides whether funding is approved after consulting the spokesperson of the GDCh structures on the GDCh Board.

What must be ensured?

  • Good visibility for the GDCh1 and the respective GDCh structure – for example in the case of an event (e.g. GDCh and group logos, mention in the welcome speech)
  • Publication of a report in the GDCh members’ magazine Nachrichten aus der Chemie2 following the event

1GDCh promotional and information materials will be provided.
2Please observe the author guidelines and deadlines of Nachrichten aus der Chemie.
