Benefits of membership

With a network of around 1,900 members, the Chemical Education Division offers a wide range of activities and information aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of chemical education. These include, for example,

  • reduced registration fees for the Division’s annual conference, which provides a platform for future-oriented chemical education through numerous experimental and discussion presentations, workshops and posters, as well as the general meeting.
  • Subscriptions to the journals CHEMKON and &Chemie in unserer Zeit at a preferential rate (must be taken out separately)
Become a division memberBecome a member of the GDCh

Annual membership fee: 40 euros

Chemistry teachers from Germany and abroad who are interested in joining, but do not hold a degree in chemistry, biochemistry or food chemistry, may opt for associate membership as an alternative to full GDCh membership.

Associate membership of the GDCh is also open to individuals from Germany and abroad who do not have a background in chemistry or related fields but are interested in contributing to the GDCh Division for chemical education.

Associate membership of the GDCh is linked to membership of a Division. You will receive all the benefits offered by the Division for chemical education, but not those of the GDCh. Voting rights are restricted to active voting rights within the Division.

Trainee teachers can experience the benefits of membership of the Division for Chemical Education of the German Chemical Society free of charge for one year.

All trainee teachers who opt for associate membership are exempt from paying membership fees during their first year of membership. This offer applies only to new members. From the second year onwards, the annual fee of 40 euros is payable for associate membership of the GDCh and membership of the Chemical Education Division. Please refer to the section ‘Associate Member of the GDCh and Membership of the Chemistry Teaching Section’ or the application form for details of the benefits of this membership.

Please print the application form and send it, completed and signed, to the German Chemical Society (GDCh), Membership Services, PO Box 90 04 40, 60444 Frankfurt am Main.

Annual subscription: 120 euros (GDCh membership) + 25 euros (specialist group membership)

Full membership is open to anyone in Germany or abroad with an interest in chemical education who is a full member of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) in accordance with its statutes. In addition to the benefits offered by the Division, full members receive the *Nachrichten aus der Chemie* and have the right to vote in the GDCh. You can find out more about GDCh membership here.

Annual membership fee: 40.00 euros To make it easier for students training to become chemistry teachers to join the Division, a special arrangement regarding associate membership applies to this group of students. Students training to become chemistry teachers may apply for associate membership – together with an application for membership of the Chemical Education Division – even before they have completed their degree, and will be treated on an equal footing with associate members.

Annual membership fee: 30.00 euros plus 25.00 euros FG

Student members and other members in training may include students of chemistry and other natural sciences, as well as other individuals interested in the chemical and molecular sciences who are currently undertaking vocational or academic training. They receive both *Nachrichten der Chemie* and *Chemkon* and have the right to vote in the GDCh and the FGCU.

Supporting members may include legal entities, companies, firms, public-law bodies and institutions, associations, interest groups and public authorities.

Further information and membership documents are available from the Membership Service at the GDCh Office.
