Working Group Archaeometry

The GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry working group archaeometry (AKA) was established in 1975 and deals with scientific, technical and humanities aspects relating to the investigation of questions concerning cultural history, as well as with the study and conservation of cultural heritage. The working group

  • deepens mutual understanding between the various academic disciplines,
  • promotes contacts and the exchange of experience among members and with members of the GNAA (Society for Scientific Archaeology ARCHAEOMETRIE) and the DMG (German Mineralogical Society),
  • facilitates partnerships for the joint investigation of questions, and
  • provides comprehensive information on activities in the field of archaeometry.

In 2026, the working group awarded the Gerhard-Schulze Young Talent Award for the first time, in recognition of outstanding final theses in the field of archaeometry. The aim of the award is to support early-career researchers, provide them with opportunities to network and raise the profile of the field of archaeometry.
