Journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry

Journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry

Journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry

The journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (ABC) resulted from the merger of Fresenius' Journal of Analytical Chemistry, Analusis, Química Analítica and Chemical Analysis/Chemia Analityczna. It is one of the world's leading journals in the field of analytical and bioanalytical chemistry.

Members of the Division of Analytical Chemistry have access to the full versions of all articles via MyGDCh.

How can ABC and Division support each other?

There is a special relationship between the Division of Analytical Chemistry and the journal ABC not only because this journal evolved from Fresenius’ Journal of Analytical Chemistry, but also because the GDCh—like other European scientific societies—is a co-owner of the journal. Members of the Division can therefore read the journal free of charge, and the Division finances a large part of its extensive scholarship programme through the lease payments.

The annual lease payments depend on ABC’s success. After all, almost 40% of accepted manuscripts come from Europe, and German scientists alone can be proud of a considerable 15% of accepted papers. This percentage leads Europe and has remained almost stable over the years. In addition to “Research Papers” on significant advances in research, “Communications” can also be published, which, as Proofs of Principle, convey new and important contributions to analysts in a concise form. Experience shows that the impact factor is influenced above all by “Critical Reviews” and “Trends”, which present current issues of major importance for research and society from the perspective of analysts. For the “Highlights” series, outstanding early-career scientists or experts are nominated, allowing their research to receive particular attention; ABC can thus specifically highlight important areas of research through important scientists in their fields.

ABC is known for the rapid publication of excellent articles that advance research in fundamental and applied areas of analytical chemistry and bioanalysis. The publication of well-cited articles means a rising impact factor and therefore also increasing contributions from ABC to the Division (both are, of course, influenced by the submission of excellent contributions from Germany as well). The average publication time until online publication is just under 90 days. This short timeframe, the journal’s high visibility not only in Europe, and easy access, particularly for Division members, make publishing in ABC attractive and support the Division’s activities.
