Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry
Since 2002, the GDCh, together with seven partner organisations and the publisher Springer Nature, has published the journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (ABC). ABC emerged from the merger of the journals Fresenius Journal of Analytical Chemistry, Analusis, Química Analítica and Chemical Analysis/Chemia Analityczna.
ABC is one of the world’s leading journals in the field of analytical and bioanalytical chemistry and impressively demonstrates how a strong European journal developed from several national journals.
Co-owner societies: German Chemical Society (GDCh), Société Chimique de France (SCF), Sociedad Española de Química Analítica (SEQA), Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ), Austrian Society for Analytical Chemistry (ASAC), Division of Analytical Sciences of the Swiss Chemical Society (DAS/SCS), Società Chimica Italiana (SCI), Polskie Towarzystwo Chemiczne (PTChem)
As a co-owner, the GDCh receives lease payments, some of which it makes available to the GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry. The Division finances a large part of its extensive scholarship programme through these payments. Division members read the journal free of charge. In return, the Division supports the journal’s development: it organises thematic special issues, solicits manuscript submissions, is involved in appointing editors, represents the GDCh at the annual "Owners Meetings" and much more. Members of the Division have free access to ABC (see below).
The lease payments depend on the success of ABC. Publishing highly cited articles means a rising impact factor and therefore also increasing contributions from ABC to the GDCh and the Division. This is influenced by the submission of excellent contributions from Germany. Almost 40% of accepted manuscripts come from Europe, and German scientists can be proud of 15% of accepted papers. This percentage leads Europe and has remained virtually stable over many years.
Alongside "Research Papers" on significant advances in research, „Communications“ are published which convey new, important contributions to analysts as a Proof of Principle in a concise format. Experience shows that the impact factor is influenced above all by „Critical Reviews“ and „Trends“, which present current issues of great importance to research and society from an analytical perspective. For the "Highlights" series, outstanding early-career scientists or Experts are nominated, thereby ensuring that their research receives particular attention. The publication time averages just under 90 days (online publication).
