ADUC Prize

ADUC Prize

ADUC Prize

As part of the Chemiedozententagung, ADUC awards up to three early-career researchers (habilitation, junior professorship, fellowship or tenure track) who aspire to a permanent career in the German academic landscape and have established an independent field of research in chemistry with the ADUC Prize. The award comprises a certificate, a book prize and prize money of 4000 euros each. Nominations and self-nominations should be submitted no later than eight years after completion of the doctorate and before taking up a permanent professorship. The establishment of the independent field of research must be demonstrated through publications in relevant scientific journals.

Current call for proposals: ADUC Prize 2027

Deadline: 31 October 2026

Objective
Each year, ADUC recognises up to three early-career researchers (habilitation, junior professorship, fellowship or tenure track) for establishing an independent field of research – demonstrated by at least three representative, independent publications in relevant scientific journals.

The award
Each ADUC early-career award includes a presentation certificate, prize money of 4000 euros and a selected book. The awards will be presented on the occasion of the Chemiedozententagung 2027, taking place from 8–10 March 2027 in Würzburg. The awardees will be invited to present their work in a short talk. ADUC will cover the costs of participation.

Nomination/Self-nomination
Nominations may be submitted by university professors, but self-nominations are also possible. Submissions should be made no more than eight years after completion of the doctorate and must be submitted before taking up a permanent professorship. The publications submitted should be characterised by originality and scientific excellence. The nominees should be seeking a long-term career in German academia and should ideally have already participated in previous Chemiedozententagungen. All submissions must include the following documents:

  • justification for the nomination (approx. 2 pages) or self-nomination (max. 1 page),
  • independent supporting assessment (only in the case of self-nominations),
  • short CV (max. 2 pages; including email address),
  • complete list of publications,
  • brief overview of the dissertation and postdoctoral work (max. 1 page each), and
  • three representative publications relating to the independent field of research

Submission
Please send all documents combined into one PDF file by email to the GDCh Office, for the attention of Maike Fries.

Presentation of the ADUC Awards on the occasion of CDT 206 on 2 March 2026 by Prof. Dr. Stefanie Tschierlei (ADUC Chair) to:

  • Junior Professor Dr. Schirin Hanf "...in recognition of her development of homo- and heterogeneous transition-metal catalysts involving p-block elements and their application in industrially relevant processes."
  • Dr. Charalampos (Babis) Pappas "...in recognition of his research in the field of systems chemistry, particularly on self-replicating peptide systems that combine chemical reactivity and molecular recognition principles in equal measure."
  • Junior Professor Dr. Alex J. Plajer "...in recognition of his research in the fields of macromolecular synthetic chemistry and inorganic catalysis, in which he uniquely links sulphur chemistry, catalytic mechanisms and supramolecular self-assembly."

Nina Hartrampf

Presentation of the ADUC Awards on the occasion of CDT 2025 on 17 March 2025 in Braunschweig by Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Arndt (ADUC Chair) to:

  • Ass.-Prof. Dr. Nina Hartrampf "...in recognition of her stimulating approaches in the field of preparative peptide research, particularly the combination of modern flow-chemical synthesis methods with biosynthetic steps in the generation of lasso peptides."
  • Dr. John James Molloy "...in recognition of his groundbreaking research into the use of organoboron compounds to generate structural complexity with photocatalytic strategies."
  • Jun.-Prof. Dr. Johannes Markus Wahl "...in recognition of his creative contributions to the development of stereoselective synthesis methods, specifically through the skilful implementation of small-ring compounds using new catalytic methods."

  • Dr. Moritz Malischewski "...for his achievements in the field of highly reactive and unusual coordination compounds, particularly through reactions in superacidic media and using highly fluorinated cyclopentadienide ligands."
  • Dr. Jola Pospech"...for her creative contributions in the field of photoredox catalysis, particularly for the development of catalytically active pyrimidopteridines, their mechanistic investigation and their use in hydroamination and hydroacylation reactions."

  • Dr. Terrance Hadlington "...for the implementation of the single-centre ambiphilicity concept, which enables sophisticated cooperative bond activations at transition-metal complexes with low-valent, redox-active main-group ligands and makes them usable for homogeneous catalytic processes, particularly hydroamination."
  • Junior Professor Dr. Christoph Kerzig "...for the further development of photochemical energy conversion, particularly in water, as well as for the development of novel two-photon processes for photocatalysis with visible light."
  • Dr. Golo Storch "...for the biomimetic development and investigation of substituted flavins as molecular redox catalysts in organic synthesis."

On the occasion of CDT 2022 in Saarbrücken, Prof. Dr. Nobert W. Mitzel (ADUC Chair; photos: left) presented the ADUC Prizes 2022 (photos: Jean M. Laffitau) to:

  • Junior Prof. Dr. Kai S. Exner "...for original and groundbreaking research in the field of theoretical electrocatalysis to improve electrode materials for electrocatalytic processes or batteries."
  • Junior Prof. Dr. Max M. Hansmann "...for the development of synthetic approaches to unusual and highly reactive carbon compounds such as mesoionic N-heterocyclic olefins, diazoalkenes, triplet vinylidenes and electron-rich olefins, as well as their comprehensive physical characterisation."
  • Dr. Christopher J. Teskey "...for the development of photoswitchable transition-metal catalysts using cobalt-mediated hydroborations as an example, which enable stereoselective aldol reaction cascades and exhibit switchable chemoselectivity."

  • Dr. Robert Göstl "...for the development of molecular force sensors that open up novel possibilities for characterising and manipulating the mechanical behaviour of polymeric materials and substances."
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Vera Krewald "...for quantum chemical calculations to elucidate reaction mechanisms and to gain a better understanding of the catalytically relevant active centres involved in the activation of small molecules such as nitrogen or oxygen in the context of chemical energy conversion."
  • Dr. Christian Sindlinger "...for the development of efficient syntheses of free boroles and the use of their dianions, the borolides, as cyclopentadienide-analogue ligands for stabilising unprecedented sandwich complexes and cluster-like half-sandwich complexes of electropositive p-block elements."

  • Dr. Urs Gellrich "...for the development of the novel concept of inter- and intramolecular boron–ligand cooperation for bond activation and catalysis, including the first organocatalytic dehydrogenation of amine–borane."
  • Dr. Jannika Lauth "...for the preparation of novel ultrathin 2D semiconductor materials and their characterisation using ultrafast spectroscopic methods. The materials possess innovative optoelectronic properties, such as photoexcitable highly mobile charge carriers or bound excitons with strong emission."
