Current call for proposals for the GDCh Abitur Prize 2026

In 2026, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) will present the GDCh Abitur Award for the 22nd time to the top-performing Abitur students in their year at grammar or comprehensive schools. The students are usually honoured when their Abitur certificates are presented. Each school may nominate one awardee per Abitur year group for a book prize, as well as two additional students for free GDCh membership.

The prize for the best chemistry student consists of a certificate, a book and the option of becoming a GDCh member free of charge for one year. This is of interest to anyone planning to begin a degree in the natural sciences or engineering, not only prospective students of chemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry or chemistry teaching.

Teachers are invited to select the top-performing students in chemistry in their year group and notify the GDCh. Any school where chemistry is taught up to Abitur level can register to participate in the GDCh Abitur Award. Registration is via the registration link on this website.

Unfortunately, registrations by email cannot be considered.

1. Registration of your school

Has your school not yet participated in awarding the GDCh Abitur Prize in recent years?

Please register your school using the online link below. You will then receive a school number and a password, which you can use to log in on the same registration page.

Has your school already participated in awarding the GDCh Abitur Prize in recent years?

In this case, you will receive a notification in February about the start of the campaign. Using the school number and password you already know, you can change existing master data online (if necessary) and inform us of the new date of your graduation ceremony and the name of the prize winner.

2. Enter the date of the school-leaving ceremony

Please enter the date of the school-leaving ceremony in the electronic form so that we know at an early stage whether you would like to award an Abitur prize this year.

3. Awardee registration

Please report your awardee as soon as the results of the Abitur examinations are available. Nominations received at short notice may, under certain circumstances, no longer be processed and dispatched in time.

Register

Using an electronic form, you can now 1. register your school, 2. enter the date of the Abitur ceremony and 3. enter your awardee:
