GDCh Abitur Prize 2026

The GDCh Abitur Award is an honour conferred by the German Chemical Society (GDCh) on the best pupils studying chemistry at grammar schools or comprehensive schools. The GDCh Abitur Award aims to strengthen interest in chemistry among the best pupils.

This is of interest to anyone wishing to begin a degree in the natural sciences or engineering, not only prospective students of chemistry, biochemistry, food chemistry or chemistry teaching. Each school may honour one awardee per year group with a book prize and is entitled to offer two other deserving school-leavers a free one-year membership. The award is generally presented during the graduation ceremony.

Since 2005, 2,900 schools throughout Germany have participated in presenting this coveted award.

The GDCh school-leaving examination award currently consists of

• a book (only possible for one awardee)
• a certificate with a letter of congratulations from the GDCh Managing Director
• one year of free GDCh membership (upon application) and free Online subscription to Nachrichten aus der Chemie
