Horst Pracejus Prize
The Horst Pracejus Prize is awarded to Professor Varinder Aggarwal for his fundamental contributions to the diastereo- and enantioselective preparation of chiral boronic esters, their stereospecific transformation and their application in natural product synthesis. The GDCh recognises Professor Aggarwal as one of the world’s leading chemists in the field of stereoselective synthesis. His fundamental achievements in the preparation of boronates have established an innovative approach to constructing defined stereogenic carbon centres, which he has implemented elegantly in various syntheses. Particularly noteworthy is the international visibility of this work, reflected in a consistently high number of citations, invitations to give lectures and numerous honours.
The Horst Pracejus Prize honours scientists for outstanding work in the field of enantioselectivity or chirality. The GDCh established the prize in 1997. Its namesake, Pracejus, was known for his research in the field of chiral catalysis and was Head of the Catalysis Research Institute in Rostock. This was an external branch of the Central Institute for Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR.
