#Hermann Staudinger Award

#Awardee 2026 - Ullrich Scherf, University of Wuppertal

The GDCh honours Prof. Dr. Ullrich Scherf for his pioneering work on the development of conjugated polymers with semiconducting properties, particularly poly(fluorene) semiconductors and stable, defect-free conducting polymers. His work has played a decisive role in shaping the foundations of organic electronics and has sustainably advanced the development of innovative materials for light-emitting diodes, solar cells, lasers and transistors.

More information about Ullrich Scherf

The Hermann Staudinger Award is awarded by the GDCh every two years to researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the field of macromolecular chemistry. The award commemorates Hermann Staudinger, known as the father of polymer chemistry, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1953 for his achievements. The GDCh Division of Macromolecular Chemistry has the right to nominate awardees.
