Heinz Schmidkunz Prize
Professor Ilka Parchmann receives the award for her significant contributions to chemistry education. With her “Chemistry in Context” concept, she links everyday questions with the development of skills, thereby setting new standards in chemical education. Through her work at the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education at Kiel University, she promotes collaboration between universities and schools and initiates innovative professional development formats such as the “Nano Summer School”. Through her commitment, Ilka Parchmann inspires school students to take an interest in chemistry and shapes the future of chemistry education in a sustainable way.
The Heinz Schmidkunz Prize is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to research in chemistry education, the training of chemistry teachers, and chemical education in schools. The prize’s namesake, Heinz Schmidkunz, set new standards through his scientific studies on developing practice-oriented chemical education, conducting school experiments in accordance with the principles of perceptual psychology, and designing inquiry-based, developmental teaching methods.
