#GDCh Award for Biocatalysis

#2026 award winner: Dr. Mona Haase, Durham University, Durham, UK

Dr. Mona Haase receives the GDCh Award for Biocatalysis for her dissertation, which was awarded “summa cum laude” and completed at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. In it, she developed an efficient and resource-saving chemoenzymatic route to synthesise the natural product Lansai B. Using rational protein design, she improved the C-methyltransferases employed and also elucidated the natural formation of the active compound. Her work combines molecular biology, organic synthesis and structural biology.

For outstanding doctoral theses in the field of biocatalysis, our member Prof. Dr. em. Manfred Schneider has established the GDCh Award for Biocatalysis. It is awarded to early-career researchers who received their doctorates no more than two years ago.

  • Specialist area: Biocatalysis
  • Consists of: €2,000, certificate
  • First awarded: 2020
  • Awarded in: Even-numbered years
