Erich Hückel Award

Prof. Dr Wolfgang Domcke is honoured for his pioneering contributions to theoretical chemistry. He has played a decisive role in shaping theoretical femtochemistry and elucidating the dynamics of chemical reactions at conical intersections. Through his work on the coupled motion of electrons and atomic nuclei, as well as on time- and frequency-resolved laser spectroscopy, he has fundamentally changed our understanding of ultrafast chemical processes.
Professor Dr Jörn Manz is honoured for his outstanding contributions to theoretical femtochemistry. He established wavepacket dynamics as an important tool for describing ultrafast chemical processes and developed pioneering concepts for precisely controlling chemical reactions with laser light. His work has had a lasting influence on theoretical chemistry and has greatly expanded our understanding of chemical reactions on the shortest timescales.
The GDCh recognises outstanding work by scientists in the field of theoretical chemistry with the Erich Hückel Award. The award is named after Erich Hückel, known for the molecular orbital method he developed, the HMO method. The Hückel rules derived from it for defining aromatic and non-aromatic organic molecules are now part of the basic knowledge of all chemistry students.
