
Adolf von Baeyer Commemorative Medal

Professor Armido Studer is the 2025 awardee of the Adolf von Baeyer Memorial Medal. Armido Studer is one of the internationally leading scientists in the field of organic chemistry and has played a major role in shaping radical chemistry over the past twenty years. In his early work, he recognised the potential of persistent radicals for radical–radical cross-couplings. In current research projects, he has expanded the application of TEMPO radicals as one-electron oxidants and established the innovative field of NHC catalysis (N-heterocyclic carbenes). His high international profile is reflected, among other things, in numerous publications in prestigious journals.
The Adolf von Baeyer Memorial Medal is awarded to scientists for outstanding work in the field of organic chemistry. The prize was established in 1910 by Carl Duisberg to commemorate his teacher Adolf von Baeyer’s 50th anniversary as a lecturer and 75th birthday. The GDCh has presented this award since 1949. It was initially funded by Bayer AG and later from a special fund of the GDCh. The award’s namesake, Adolf von Baeyer, was one of the most distinguished chemists of his time and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1905 for the synthesis of indigo and triphenylmethane dyes.
