Angewandte Symposia
A high-profile Angewandte Chemie Symposium took place on 9 December 2024 as part of the 12th Singapore International Chemistry Conference (SICC-12), attended by Prof Stefanie Dehnen (President of the German Chemical Society, GDCh) and Prof Annette Beck-Sickinger (Leipzig University and Chair of the Angewandte Chemie International Advisory Board), among others. German Ambassador Bettina Fanghänel welcomed the participants. In addition, building on the “Germany-Singapore Framework for Sustainability and Innovation”, signed by both governments in November 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding between the GDCh and the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC) was signed in the presence of Thorsten Clausing, the Science Attaché at the German Embassy in Singapore.
The 12th Singapore International Chemistry Conference (SICC-12) was held from 9 to 13 December 2024 and hosted by the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC). It covered organic, organometallic, inorganic and materials chemistry.
As part of the GDCh Science Forum Chemistry – anniversary congress "GDCh 150 Years", the Angewandte Festsymposium was held on 11 September 2017 in the Henry Ford Building of Freie Universität Berlin.
The German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Israel Chemical Society (ICS) held a symposium of the GDCh journal Angewandte Chemie in Tel Aviv, Israel, together with Wiley-VCH on 15 February 2017. "Chemistry for Our Future" was the central theme of the symposium. GDCh President Thisbe K. Lindhorst led the German delegation.
The German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), together with Wiley-VCH, held a symposium of the GDCh journal Angewandte Chemie in Siliguri, India, on 13 July 2016. "Bioorganic Chemistry and Chemical Biology" were the central themes of the symposium. GDCh President Thisbe K. Lindhorst led the German delegation and also contributed to the programme with a scientific lecture.
The celebratory symposium marking 125 years of Angewandte Chemie took place in Berlin on 12 March 2013. The venue was the Henry Ford Building of Freie Universität Berlin.
The German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) held the symposium of the GDCh journal Angewandte Chemie in Busan, South Korea, on 18 October 2012. "Inorganic solid-state chemistry and nanomaterials" were the central themes of the symposium. The opening speech was given by GDCh President Barbara Albert.
In the International Year of Chemistry 2011, “Angewandte Chemie International Edition”, the flagship of the GDCh journals and one of the most important chemistry publications worldwide, celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark this anniversary, in June the GDCh organised two symposia in Tokyo and Beijing together with the Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ), the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), the German Research Foundation (DFG), a partner organisation of the “Research in Germany” initiative, and the publisher Wiley-VCH. These events were intended to honour outstanding achievements in chemistry and strengthen scientific dialogue between the GDCh and its partner organisations in Japan and China. Four Nobel Prize winners in chemistry and other internationally renowned chemists took part as speakers at the symposia, which could also be followed online via video.
