Hellmut Bredereck Foundation

The Hellmut Bredereck Foundation was established at the German Chemical Society in 1995. Its purpose is to support early-career researchers working in the fields in which Professor H. Bredereck (1904–1981) was active. These include organic and bioorganic chemistry, with a focus on carbohydrates, as well as heterocycles, proteins and nucleotides. Support is provided by awarding a certificate and a cash prize, which can generally be awarded every two years. In addition, support may also take the form of scholarships or research grants. A board of trustees comprising four researchers and one member of the family of the foundation’s benefactor, Elisabeth Bredereck, decides how the funds are awarded.
Hellmut Bredereck, who taught at the University of Stuttgart, was President of the German Chemical Society in 1968/69.
The Hellmut Bredereck Foundation awards funding to support early-career researchers working in organic and bioorganic chemistry, particularly in the fields of carbohydrates, heterocycles, proteins and nucleotides. Support is provided primarily through the award of a prize, which comes with a certificate and a cash award and is generally presented every two years. A board of advisers decides who receives the prize.
