Supramolecular chemistry

The Working Group Supramolecular Chemistry was founded on 18 March 2025 at the Chemiedozententagung in Braunschweig and is the newest GDCh structure within the German Chemical Society (GDCh). Supramolecular chemistry is an interdisciplinary field of research spanning organic, inorganic and physical chemistry through to the life sciences and materials science, and has a long tradition in Germany. The field has grown considerably in importance over the past two decades, as evidenced by the establishment of numerous research networks and the great success of the SupraChem Conferences, which have grown steadily since they were launched in 2011; SupraChem 2024 already attracted 330 participants.

GDCh members from all disciplines and at every career stage are warmly invited to join the Working Group. Membership is free for students.

Our aim is to promote science and research through

• the exchange of information and experience across disciplines
• collaboration with other GDCh Divisions and our European sister organisations
• support for the next generation of supramolecular chemists
• promoting the application of supramolecular research in industry
• recognising outstanding achievements in teaching and research in supramolecular chemistry

We pursue this aim, among other things, by

• organising the SupraChem Conferences
• supporting national and international networking activities
• awarding prizes
• contributing to the GDCh continuing professional development programme (GDCh.academy)
