Founded in 1956, the Division of Nuclear Chemistry sees its main task as promoting nuclear, radiochemistry and radiation chemistry, as well as the students, technicians and scientists working in these fields. Particular emphasis is to be placed on providing information about new results and applications.
The exchange of ideas and experience and the communication of professional inspiration are facilitated by:
A key aspect is the promotion and safeguarding of adequate research, teaching and training capacity in nuclear, radiochemistry and radiation chemistry.

The Division of Nuclear Chemistry within the German Chemical Society represents the scientists and engineers who, in their work, handle radioactive substances and ionising radiation and use them for the purposes of research, industry, medicine and teaching. Teaching, Training and Maintaining Expertise
The Board consists of the Chair, their Deputy and up to five assessors, with universities, industry and research centres represented. The Board is supported in an advisory capacity by an advisory council, which also includes student members. more
JuRadChem – the youth organisation of the Nuclear Chemistry Division – is a national network for students and recent graduates with up to three years’ professional experience who are interested in the topics of radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry or actinide chemistry. more
Fritz Straßmann Award
With the Fritz Straßmann Award, the Division honours established personalities who have achieved outstanding results in the field of nuclear chemistry.

The Division Award Nuclear Chemistry honours dedicated scientists who have completed their doctorates.

PhD Award Nuclear Chemistry
Particularly outstanding doctoral theses are generally recognised every two years by the Division with the PhD Award of the Division of Nuclear Chemistry.
