Digitalisation Working Group in chemical education

Hello. We are Johannes Huwer and Amitabh Banerji, and together we are the founders of the "Digitalisation in Chemical Education Division" of the GDCh Chemical Education Division. You can find information about our Division in the drop-down menus further down this page.
Please send your questions and suggestions concerning the Division and its activities to dice@go.gdch.de

Digitalisation is currently not only driving Germany, but is also one of the most important issues of the 21st century worldwide. To ensure the AG’s visibility in the international arena, we therefore opted for the English-language name "Digitalisation in Chemistry Education". As the four initial letters form the acronym dice (English for Würfel), our logo was born as well :-)

The general aim of this working group is to harness the potential of digitisation and digitality for chemical education.
At the founding meeting, suggestions were made for the following areas of work, focusing on pupils and on teachers:
1) Focus: Pupils ("K12")
This focus is on the specific use of digital media in chemical education in the four functions (learning tools, learning companions, experimental tools and learning objects).
2) Focus: Teachers ("High Ed")
This focus deals with the first, second and third phases of chemistry teacher training. The emphasis is on promoting digitalisation- and digitality-related competences among students, trainee teachers and practising teachers.
Both areas of focus address the use and application of digital media in educational contexts, from basic to high-end. These areas of focus are to be addressed collaboratively by various stakeholders in chemical education research and teaching practice.

The DiCE working group was founded on 17 September 2019 at the 36th Annual Conference of the Division of Chemical Education in Aachen. The members of the DiCE working group come from various professional groups, including teachers, scientists and representatives from industry associations and foundations. As of January 2021, we have 31 members. The image below provides an overview of our membership structure.
Would you like to become a member of our working group and actively contribute to its work?
Then please submit an application to dice@go.gdch.de including:
- a brief letter of motivation
- and details of the type of membership (see image)
