Association Bernard Gregory (AGB) is a French non-profit organisation that supports doctoral candidates and graduates with doctorates from all disciplines in pursuing their professional goals. This includes workshops and courses, job vacancies from industry and academia, and a wide range of information relating to doctoral studies and entering the profession.
The German-French ABG-DFH Service Centre is also helpful for Francophile chemists. It is a joint project of the Franco-German University (FGU) and Association Bernard Gregory, established to support and accompany the professional integration of doctoral graduates in Germany and France.
The British Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) actually makes its extensive career service available only to members. However, as GDCh and the RSC have concluded an agreement on cooperation in various fields, GDCh members seeking a position in the United Kingdom can also benefit from it. Please contact the RSC, quoting the Bilateral Cooperation Agreement!
There is also a corresponding agreement (International Associate Membership) with the Koninklijke Nederlandse Chemische Vereniging (KNCV), the Dutch fellow society, which enables GDCh members to use the KNCV's placement service.
The Société Française de Chimie (SFC) also supports its members seeking employment with a "Bourse de l'emploi", and the GDCh has also concluded an agreement (International Associate Membership) with the SFC. GDCh members can have their details included in an applicant database published online. The job vacancies ("offres d´emploi") for doctoral candidates, postdocs and positions in the chemical industry are accessible to everyone.
Unfortunately, the American Chemical Society makes its extensive assistance for jobseekers available only to its members. However, it operates a job database that is not restricted to members.
Ingenieur is the service provided by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) covering entry into the profession and Career. Naturally intended primarily for engineers, it also offers chemists a great deal of interesting information. Why much more information is outsourced to the Ingenieur.de website is not apparent to external visitors. Nevertheless, it is worth clicking through, as hidden under "Career" and then "Working life" is the already legendary Career advice column by Heiko Mell from the VDI-Nachrichten, and this reading is worthwhile for every natural scientist in professional life.
Sixteen research centres have joined together to form the Helmholtz Association. Most of them advertise their vacancies in all areas of the natural sciences online.
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft operates a total of 47 Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany, conducting applied research in all areas of the natural sciences and technology. Vacancies are advertised centrally.
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, with branches in Hamburg, Grenoble (France) and Hinxton (United Kingdom), also publishes its vacancies online, mostly for biologists, biochemists, structural chemists and computer scientists.
CERN's vacancies are also published online. CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna was founded by the United Nations and works to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and prevent its military use. As the proportion of German employees has declined in recent years and the IAEA values an international mix, applications from German candidates are welcome. The current vacancies can be found on the pages indicated above.
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), based in Helsinki, manages the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances in order to ensure a uniform procedure within the European Union (keyword "Reach"). ECHA has compiled its vacancies under "Working with us".
