Chemistry – (Y)Our Passion, (Y)Our commitment

Together with international partner organisations, the GDCh has launched a series of named lectures – a format designed to specifically strengthen scientific exchange between countries and raise the profile of leading figures from the respective partner countries.
The oldest and best-known of these is the August Wilhelm von Hofmann Lecture: modelled on this, further lectures were established through bilateral agreements with European fellow societies. What makes them special is that the invitations are based on reciprocity – scientists are invited in turn, fostering a continuous dialogue across borders.
Browse through the history of the lectures and invited guests – discover how chemistry forges international connections.

On the basis of mutual agreements, the fellow societies award their named lectures to distinguished chemists and invite them to the partner country. The honouree will undertake a lecture tour there and deliver lectures at three universities or scientific institutions.
Nominations are expressly encouraged – from all fields of chemistry: from universities, public research institutes and industry. We attach great importance to a wide variety of individuals and profiles.
A committee carefully reviews the proposals received and selects the invited speakers in consultation with the fellow societies.
This fosters a regular, personal exchange: the awards and invitations are generally presented annually, alternating between the participating societies.
Further lectures named after distinguished figures are organised by the GDCh Divisions.
