Our mission statements

The GDCh’s mission statements were developed at a strategy development workshop in November 2018 by a facilitated working group. In addition to the President and the Executive Director of the GDCh, the working group included several members of the Executive Board, employees of the office and other representatives of various GDCh structures. In line with the vision "We discover chemistry for a better world", the participants defined the first three mission statements. The fourth mission statement, on communication, was developed at a digital workshop in December 2021.

1. The GDCh is a vibrant network of committed members

That means for us:

  • We provide attractive services developed through a transparent, strategy-based process
  • We support members throughout their careers
  • We promote active regional and GDCh structures
  • We use digital communication channels
  • We promote exchange across generations and disciplines

2. The GDCh is relevant to society and politics

For us, this means

  • We conduct science-driven discourse
  • We highlight options for action and scenarios to support decision-making
  • We inform policymakers, public authorities and the media
  • We inspire interest in and enthusiasm for chemistry
  • We address socially relevant issues

3. The GDCh is a globally leading society

What this means for us

  • We embrace diversity and equal opportunities (see Equal Opportunities in Chemistry: Guiding Principles)
  • We promote international exchange at member level
  • We enhance Germany’s reputation as a location for chemical research and development
  • We have partnerships with other globally leading societies
  • We actively participate in international chemistry organisations

4. The GDCh is creating new forms of collaboration and communication

This means for us:

  • We offer individually tailored services
  • We promote new forms of virtual exchange and support our members’ activities with digital infrastructure
  • We are digitally and physically present worldwide, building connections and trying out new things
  • We provide trustworthy & relevant information on digital platforms for science, industry, politics and society.
  • We are pursuing new approaches to communicate the fascination of chemistry in a simple and understandable way
