This review consolidates recent advancements, analyzes current methodologies, and identifies emerging trends. It provides a comprehensive overview of synthetic techniques, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and guiding the development of sustainable, efficient, and selective approaches for sulfone-based molecule design.


Abstract

The growing significance of sulfone-containing compounds in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science has driven interest in innovative sulfono functionalization strategies. Despite the progress, the diversity of emerging methods, from transition metal catalysis to photoredox and electrochemical approaches, has led to a fragmented understanding across disciplines. This review article aims to consolidate recent advancements, critically analyze current methodologies, and highlight trends shaping the future of sulfono chemistry. By offering a comprehensive overview of established and novel synthetic techniques, this review is a valuable resource for researchers, aiding in the rational design of sulfone-based molecules and fostering the development of more sustainable, efficient, and selective functionalization protocols. Ultimately, it bridges gaps in literature, stimulates interdisciplinary collaboration, and identifies unexplored avenues for future research.
