Synthesis of Thioxothiazolidinone and Iminothiazolidinone Derivatives via Dicyano Epoxide‐Based Multicomponent Reactions in Green Media

Multi-component reaction of dicyanoepoxide toward the efficient synthesis of thiazolidine-2-thiones, 2-imino-thiazolidin-4-ones and amido dithiocarbamate, in green media has been described. The use of green solvents, metal and catalyst-free, mild reaction conditions and excellent product yields are among the most important advantages of this sustainable approach.


A green and efficient multicomponent protocol has been developed for the synthesis of thiazolidine-2-thiones via the reaction of carbon disulfide, primary amines, and dicyanoepoxides in water. The transformation proceeds under mild, catalyst-free conditions, offering broad substrate scope and good to excellent yields. Notably, using secondary amine selectively affords a dithiocarbamate derivative, highlighting tunable chemoselectivity. A complementary reaction involving isothiocyanates, primary amines, and dicyanoepoxides in ethanol enables access to 2-imino-thiazolidin-4-ones. Both methods provide sustainable, scalable routes to biologically relevant heterocycles.
