Aims and Motivation – Invitation

Electrochemistry is a successful series of conferences, held every other year
Starting in Gießen (2008), followed by Bochum (2010), Munich (2012) and Mainz (2014) an increasing number of participants joined for discussing cutting-edge trends and applications. The conference is jointly organized by GDCh Fachgruppe Elektrochemie, GDCh Arbeitskreis Elektroanalytische Chemie, DBG, DECHEMA, AGEF, GfKORR and DGO.

Electrochemistry will be continued in Goslar 2016
Outstanding electrochemists from Germany and from abroad will highlight research results and current trends. Three parallel sessions will cover nearly all topics of electrochemistry from fundamental science to technical applications.

Electrochemistry – basic science and key technology for future applicationsIn this spirit, the organizing committee and the organizing societies invite electrochemists, scientists from other disciplines, who are interested in electrochemistry, and students to meet in Goslar. Colleagues from industry and academia, from Germany and from abroad are cordially invited to participate in the conference and to enrich its program by their scientific contributions.

Goslar is not only the former Free Imperial Town with an over-1000-year history – but in September 2016 it will be a forum of electrochemistry. So, save the date and join us there!

Scientific Program

Online Program

Program (pdf)

The individual thematic symposia will be held in three parallel sessions, each opened by invited keynote lectures. The extent of these symposia will be adapted according to the number of contributions.

We are proud to announce that the following scientists already agreed to present a plenary lecture:

Andrew Abbott (Leicester/UK)
Karel Bouzek (Prag/CZ)
Peter Strasser (Berlin/DE)
Bernard Tribollet (Paris/FR)

Scope of the Conference - Topics

Electrochemical science and development generates the technology for many applications, e.g. energy storage, sensors, synthesis of chemicals, modification of surfaces and corrosion protection. Recently, electromobility and biotechnology triggered a revival of electrochemical techniques.

The conference program covers electrochemical topics from fundamental science to industrial applications. Nowadays in science and development cooperation between different disciplines is essential. This is particularly valid for modern electrochemical science. The program reflects the interdisciplinarity. The different topics are addressed by plenary and keynote lectures, contributed talks and posters.

Scientific topics are:

• Batteries and electrochemical energy storage devices
• Bioelectrochemistry
• Corrosion science and electrochemical machining
• Electrochemical engineering
• Electrochemical water treatment
• Electroanalysis and sensors
• Electroplating
• Electrosynthesis and electrocatalysis
• Fundamental and theoretical electrochemistry
• Ionic Liquids
• Solid state electrochemistry and photoelectrochemistry

Scientific Awards

Three prizes for young scientists in electrochemistry will be awarded during the conference. For more details please visit the websites given below.

• Young Scientist Award of the GDCh Fachgruppe Elektrochemie

• Metrohm Autolab poster prize for the best poster contribution awarded by
Metrohm and Metrohm Autolab (introduced at ELACH conference 1993).

• Joachim Walther Schultze Prize for young electrochemists
   provided by AGEF

World Heritage Rammelsberg Mining Museum

The ore mines of the Rammelsberg are the only mines in the world which were in uninterrupted operation for over 1000 years. It and the medieval Old Town of Goslar with the Imperial Palace were placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992. Ten centuries of mining history are documented in the Rammelsberg, which shut down in 1988, leaving a large inventory of mining monuments: the slag heaps (10th century), the Rathstiefste Gallery (one of the oldest and best maintained galleries of German mining, 12th century), the Feuergezähe Vault (oldest underground stone-masonry mine chamber in Europe, 13th century), the Maltermeister Tower (the oldest above ground structure of German mining, 15th century), the Roeder Gallery (18th/19th century) with two original water wheels, and the above ground mining plant from the 1930’s.

With its wealth of nearly 30 million tonnes of ore the Rammelsberg influenced the history and development of the town of Goslar. The silver- and copper-rich Rammelsberg gave Heinrich II the impetus to establish a royal palatinate here in the 11th century; in 1009 the first imperial diet was held in Goslar. Goslar was a favourite residence of German kings and emperors until 1253. Trade in metals led to membership in the Hanseatic League.
