At the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Materials Engineering of the University of Augsburg, the Institute of Physics is seeking to fill the position of a

University Professorship
of grade W3
for Bioorganic Chemistry

with tenured position, to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The candidate should be highly qualified at the interface between chemistry, biophysics, and medicine. The methodological focus should be on organic synthesis and the characterization of biologically relevant macromolecules and/or natural products, e.g., by NMR spectroscopy or other modern biophysical/biochemical methods. Research and applications can focus, for example, on (biomimetic) organocatalysis, biosensors, supramolecular theranostics, or protein and/or DNA/RNA engineering.

At the Institute of Physics, basic and applied research is carried out using methods from experimental and theoretical physics, materials science, chemistry, and quantitative life sciences of condensed matter. This offers a wide range of collaboration opportunities, including the Faculty of Medicine. The central selection criteria are extensive success in obtaining third-party funding third-party funding and high-ranking publications.

The teaching duties associated with the professorship include representing the field of organic chemistry in the faculty's study programs. Active participation in the development of new study programs, such as “Quantitative Life Science” and “Materials Chemistry”, is expected.

Requirements for employment are a completed university degree, pedagogical qualification, special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, as well as additional scientific achievements, which are demonstrated by a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements or are provided in the context of a junior professorship.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 52 may be appointed to the civil service; otherwise, they may be hired under a private-law employment relationship.
