Protection of Industrial Property

Protection of Industrial Property

The Division presents itself

The research into, development, production and distribution of products changed our life substantially in the last century and especially in recent decades. The great success in all fields, including new medicaments, new plastic materials, agrochemicals, paints and lacquers, fibers and also the new issues of biotechnological production, would not have been possible without a corresponding protection of industrial property.

The central work of the GDCh Division, founded in 1949, is the support of members who are active in the fields of the entire industrial property rights and patent issues.

Workshops, seminars and colloquiums serve this purpose. Offprints of papers and publications by members relating to industrial property rights are made accessible to all members. Newsletters from the Chairman of the Division inform about new developments at home and abroad.

The Division enjoys a high reputation as an educational platform for industrial property rights, as a platform for the exchange of experience in patent issues, existing laws, jurisdiction and office practice. The annual Specialization Day of the Division, held since its introduction in 1983, is particularly conducive in this respect.

Quite a lot of chemists who leave the university are not informed about patent law, or only little so. Therefore, experts of the Division provide chemists and scientists with the appropriate qualifications and basic knowledge for activity in industrial property rights in seminars and lectures.

It is an explicit object of the Board of the Division to provide graduate chemists with the corresponding basics in patent law at further universities, with a focus on the chemistry aspect.
