Public Relations

Information for a better understanding

The aim of the publicity work of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) is to inform the wider public about the use and importance of chemistry and to build a bridge between science and the media.  The main point is to promote public interest in the performances of chemisty as well as  to communicate the chemical relationships, support differentiated ways of viewing environmental questions and explain the results of current research.

The publicity department of the GDCh is responsible for all these activities.  It publishes opinions of the GDCh, information of the expert groups and local associations and directs the comprehensive GDCh  picture archive.  Moreover, the “Scientific Press Service in Chemistry” informs the daily newspapers, expert journals, radio and television media about facts in chemistry. Press conferences are organized for important expert conferences.   Furthermore, the GDCh mediates journalists but also experts as interview partners—an offer which the media gladly and often uses.

The public discussions held by the GDCh deal with fascinating topics relevant to chemistry and aim to inform, explain and better communicate chemistry to the public.

new!

To solve the energy problems which will come up because of the finite nature of fossile energy sources now brings together natural scientists and engineers all over the world. Chemists know that their work is extremely useful for important contributions to the future energy supplies. This is valid especially for electrochemistry which during the last years unfortunately was ignored a little bit. A focus on electrochemistry is given by the new brochure "Topics on Electrochemistry and about Energy " (in German). This Brochure you can order from the GDCh office in Frankfurt (Germany), Phone: +49 - 7917-493, email: pr@gdch.de.
