Statutes and Code of Conduct

The GDCh gave itself the following code of conduct in 1994, which is obligatory for all members.

Code of Conduct

The GDCh commits itself and its members to uphold freedom, tolerance and truth in science. It is their particular mission to protect and increase the standing of chemistry, chemical knowledge and skills. All GDCh members are aware that they, as scientists, are especially responsible for the effects of their work on man and the environment.

The GDCh and its members support and promote the sustainable and lasting development of society, the economy and the environment. In their actions they are always conscious of their responsibility to future generations. They observe all laws and international conventions applicable to their work, its results and its effects and are against the misuse of chemistry as, for example, in the development of chemical weapons or drugs. They are committed to truth in the acquisition, application and dissemination of chemical knowledge and follow no dishonest methods.

Members who violate these principles damage the reputation of their profession and risk being banned from the GDCh.
